Support with family conflict

Other support is available with a Mediator where joint mediation is not, or is not yet, possible:

Step Ahead sessions

Step Ahead is a one-off session to give you an opportunity to examine how you have been dealing with your conflict, reflect on what has worked and what hasn’t, and consider what you might do differently to minimize conflict moving forward, from your perspective. It is also an information session providing resources and details of alternative or additional support that may be needed. It is not mediation, counselling or a magic wand, but it gives you protected space to develop your knowledge, skills and ability to cope with conflict.

Parenting Apart sessions

WHAT IS PARENTING APART?

Parenting Apart is an information session for parents who are separating, separated or living apart. It will offer you practical ideas to help you move forward. It will help you:
- understand how separation affects children
- learn what children need from both parents
- find ways to reduce conflict
- support your child to adjust and thrive

WHO / WHEN IS IT FOR?

- Parents who are separating or divorced
- Parents experiencing conflict after separation
- Parents who want to better support their children

You can attend:
- At any stage (early separation or later on)
- Even if your child/ren don't currently see you/the other parent
- Whether or not the other parent takes part

HOW DOES IT WORK?

What to expect
- A single session (around three hours)
- Mostly online
- Delivered in a small, supportive group
- Led by experienced family mediators
- An opportunity to listen, learn and ask questions

You do not need to share personal details unless you want to. If both parents wanted to attend, they will be invited to separate sessions from the other parent.

You will be able to access additional resources and materials to support you further, and will receive a certificate of attendance.

What you've said

“It made me realise that we do actually agree on many things about the children.”
